Ellen Fink-Samnick, MSW, ACSW, LCSW, CCM, CRP

ellenAn industry thought leader for over 30 years, Ellen is known and respected as “The Ethical Compass of Professional Case Management”. She is a popular presenter with hundreds of offerings to her credit and author of close to 100 publications. Ellen has received awards and global recognition for her innovative practice, including the 2017 Distinguished Master Social Work Alumni from the University of Buffalo School of Social Work, and 2016 National Award of Service Excellence for the Case Management Society of America.

Ellen is the co-author of the book COLLABORATE® for Professional Case Management: A Universal Competency-Based Paradigm, 1st ed. She has contributed to CMSA’ s Career and Knowledge Pathways®, plus the Commission for Case Manager Certification’s Case Management Body of Knowledge®, among many others. Ellen also served on the committee that revised CMSA’ s 2016 Standards of Practice.

Ellen's passion is evident across roles as a professional trainer, industry consultant, educator, social media moderator, accreditation specialist, clinical social work supervisor and professional mentor to the case management community. Her contributions to professional case management, ethics, and clinical social work transverse professional associations and credentialing organizations, including roles as subject matter expert, exam item writer, and leadership positions. She is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Professional Case Management Journal and the moderator of Ellen’s Ethical Lens on LinkedIn.

Ellen serves as a Director on the 2017-2018 CMSA National Board. She has been a commissioner for CCMC, member of their Executive Committee, and Chair of their Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee. Ellen is a vibrant professional voice.

Mindy Owen, RN, CRRN, CCM

Mindy Owen RN, CRRN, CCM, began her career in healthcare as a critical care specialist in neurosurgery and rehabilitation.  She spent 3 years as the charge nurse of a Neuro ICU and the step-down unit at Milwaukee County Medical Complex.  She then joined the team that designed, developed and implemented an SCI-TBI rehabilitation program affiliated with Wesley Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.  Mindy was instrumental in preparing the program for both CARF and JACHO accreditation, as well as founding the Kansas Chapter of the ARN and serving on the National Board of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses during her tenure as Program Director.

Her case management career began as the Midwest Regional Director of CM for Intracorp- a leader in disability, UR and CM services nationwide.  She was asked to be one of the Founding Board members of CMSA, helping to establish the organization and becoming its 2nd President. During this time, the definition, standards of practice, and CM guidelines were developed.

Mindy has also served on the CMSA Task Force (Outcomes and Accountability), the Commission for Case Manager Certification for 11 years (CCM Chair-1996 and 2005), ACCM Leadership Council, the Editorial Board of The Case Manager magazine, Lippincott’s Professional Case Manager Journal, and the Case Management Standards of Practice Task Force sponsored by URAC.  She has designed and developed educational tools for case managers through unrestricted pharmaceutical grants. 

Mindy was elected to serve on the Board of Directors as the Public Member for the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). ACRP is the international certifying body for clinical research professionals.  She has published numerous articles, monographs, and curriculum and is acknowledged as a contributing author of Case Management in HealthCare 2nd edition –2003, and currently writes as a co-author “The Heartbeat of Case Management” for Professional Case Manager- the official Journal of CMSA.      

Ronald Hirsch, MD, FACP, CHCQM

Dr. Ronald Hirsch is a Vice President of the Regulations and Education Group at R1 Physician Advisory Services. He received his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, IL, and completed his internal medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Hollywood, CA.

Dr. Hirsch was a general internist and HIV specialist and practiced at Signature Medical Associates, a multispecialty practice located in Elgin, IL. He was Medical Director of Case Management at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL from 2006 to 2012, where he was Chairman of the Medical Records Committee from 1995 to 2012, and also served on the Medical Executive Committee. He also served on the Sherman Home Care Board of Directors from 1999 to 2012 He was Chairman of the Board of Health for the City of Elgin, IL from 1997 to 2012 and was medical director at two area nursing facilities in the 1990’s.

Dr. Hirsch is certified in Health Care Quality and Management by the American Board of Quality
Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, a member of the American Case Management
Association, on the Advisory Board of the American College of Physician Advisors, a Fellow of the
American College of Physicians, and on the advisory board of the National Association of Healthcare
Revenue Integrity. He is the co-author of The Hospital Guide to Contemporary Utilization Review, which
was published in 2015. In 1996 he was a guest on the Jerry Springer Show.

Marty Pressley - Turner, RN-BC, MS, LCCE

marthaMartha is as clever as she is beautiful!  She has been an RN for 43 years and is a graduate of the University of Omaha College of Nursing (GO BIG RED).  She has worked OB in both a high-risk tertiary hospital and a 16-bed hospital in the AF.   After becoming a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in 1979, she had her own Lamaze business for seven years.  

Martha was also a co-coordinator for Lamaze International for Nebraska and mentored 12 candidates through their certification process.  During her military active duty service, she received her MS in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas (GO HAWGS) and her 'MRS' to an AF Officer.  After her husband retired, Martha went into the AR Reserves and worked for several hospices.   

She started working as a Case Manager at BCBSSC in 1994 and it has been more rewarding and personal then both OB and hospice!  She has led numerous in services to both her OB and case management peers.  She retired as a Lt Colonel from the Air Force Reserve in 2008.

Martha became certified as an RN Case Manager through ANCC in 2004 and her greatest professional achievement is being appointed to ANCC's Content Expert Panel for Case Management with 8 other wonderful CMs from around the country.  Her panel wrote the 2015 certification test, but is sworn to secrecy!   

Eric Bergman, RN, CCM

Eric Bergman, RN, CCM, is an International Nurse Case Manager for AXA Assistance, one of the world’s leading travel assistance companies. At AXA he has worked as the case manager overseeing the evaluation and coordination of care all over the world for patients struck by a sudden illness while abroad, as well as a repatriation escort. He currently does telephonic case management for US expatriates in German, Canada, and Mexico with chronic or complex acute issues. As a repatriation nurse, Eric uses his expertise in both nursing and international travel to safely move ill patients home. He works for AXA’s Chicago office where he spent two years as the leader of the medical department education committee. 

After receiving a BA in History from Boston University, Eric worked as a flight attendant and union leader for American Airlines for 27 years. In the early 2000’s, Eric made a midlife career change and became an RN. His initial nursing experience was inpatient hospice and oncology where he worked at a community hospital in Chicago for five years.

Eric has served on the CMSA Chicago Board of Directors since 2014 and currently serves as Vice Chair of the National CMSA Public Policy Committee.
